On 23-24 June, European leaders will meet for a European Council meeting in Brussels. They will discuss the Wider Europe, the latest developments in relation to Russia’s war against Ukraine, the membership applications from Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, the economic situation, the Conference on the Future of Europe and external relations.

Just days after the urgent interim measure of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to stop the deportation of asylum seekers from Britain to Rwanda, the UK government is to set out a bill to reduce the power of the ECtHR on the UK. The bill will make clear that the UK Supreme Court is the ultimate judicial decision-maker on human rights issues and that the case law of the European Court of Human Rights does not always need to be followed by UK courts.
